On the Road with Bryan

Day 24-25: Bellingham, Kent, Seattle, Olympia, WA

I left Bellingham to and headed back south to Seattle. I met Michelle and Ronnie from USAtourist in Ballard, WA. They're very nice and they gave me a box of supplies, including 2500 business cards and an ink stamp that says "Bryan was here." They're actually encouraging me to commit vandalism. And if you know me, you know that I need very little encouragement to commit vandalism. So I will be stamping my way across the country leaving a trail of business cards. Woohoo!

After lunch I headed to Fremont, WA to hang out. Fremont is a pretty neat artsy community in north Seattle. There are lots of good cafes and book stores and art gallerys and restaurants and bars. It borders Lake Union's Salmon Bay.

Then I drove to Kent, WA to see my Uncle Don. It's always a kick to hang out with him. He's the cool uncle. He took me out to eat and, after seeing my camping skills, gave me the Camping for Dummies book. I get the feeling he's trying to send me a subtle message... Thanks Uncle!

The next morning I drove back to Olympia because I'd forgotten my rain coat at my parents house. I ended up staying the night and the next day and the next night because several plans fell through in rapid succession. I don't like to backtrack. It frustrates me. I almost left instead of waiting for the van to be fixed, but then I forced myself to chill out. After that I had a very nice time hanging out at home with my dog and parents.

Hello Bryan,

I'm Anabel

I'm the Translator who puts your blogs into Spanish for USATourist...  I'm also a happy wife and homeschooling mom with 7 children, the oldest 12 years,  the youngest only 3 months old.

I was disappointed to hear your where in the Kent area, where I live, and I did not have a chance to meet you. You see, I think if you would have visited my home even for an hour you would have experienced a whole new side of the American Way of Life and would have had lots to write about in your blog... seriously... There's never a dull moment in my house, I think you probably would have found it loud, mesmerizing, entertaining, encouraging, crazy and happy, all at the same time. There's kids doing phonics, chores, math, reading lesson, practicing typing or Spanish, playing with the baby, the piano or my permanent markers or  having a snack.  I'm usually settling a dispute, protecting the children from harming themselves, teaching and training,  trying to remain calm and composed in the midst changing waves of emotions, and trying to remember  that I put the two year old on the potty, the pot on the stove, the contentious child in time out and my husband on hold....

I think it probably would have been an interesting experience for you...

On your way back remember that you are welcome to come and visit!

Anabel - thanks for the note.

Sounds like quite the operation - I wish I could have stopped by! Maybe I'll be able to stop by on the next trip... I have no idea how you get it all done and still have time to translate.

Thanks for the good work, and best of luck with everything!
