sites from pitts., pa to new mexico

This fall a group of us will be traveling from Pitts., PA to New Mexico for the hot-air balloon festival. We will be traveling the most direct route and would like to know if there is anything worth seeing in between. Good restaurants are also welcome. :)

    That is a long drive!

If you swing south and take route 40 across the country, you can visit the twin music cities of Nashville and Memphis.  Nashville is the home of country music with the Grand Ol Opry and the honkey-tonk saloons featuring some possible future country stars.  Memphis is the home of the Blues, the birthplace of Rock and Roll, and the home of Elvis Pressley.

From Oklahoma City to Albuquerque, you will be running parallel to old Route 66.  If you search hard, you can find some small segments of the old road still in existance.

I suggest you venture a bit beyond Albuquerque to Acoma or "Sky Pueblo" an hour or so west of the city.  It is worth seeing.
