Florida: Buying a car, then shipping it to Europe, keeping FL plates

    Help!!

Will be very grateful for any advice on this.  Have permanent address in Florida (family),

and my home is in Australia.

I want to buy a car in Florida, and ship it to Europe, keeping it on Florida plates. I understand

that I can register the car with a permanent address and insurance, but can I keep the plates

once it goes past customs at the port, or is that a problem?

    Any advice really appreciated! Thanks!

I am no expert on the motor vehicle regulations in Florida, but I do know the basic rules in many states.  The registration tags, commonly known as license plates, are typically the property of the vehicle owner.  When you sell a car, you can keep your plates and transfer them to another vehicle.  If you do not have another vehicle, you can keep the plates or discard them.  Some people collect the old license plates, and nail them up on the wall of their garage.
