    TIMESHARE *** SHORT-TRIP TO USA

We’re from Singapore (South of West Malaysia) and live in the USA (California) for few years.  We have been a frequent traveller; mainly to California and Florida.  We always travel to the resort for 1 – 2 weeks vacation.  We plan to be more adventurous in our coming trip which falls from October 2010 to Central USA (Texas, New Mexico and Colorado).  Being a typical Singapore, we love to shop especially factory outlet  and at the same time would like to visit the Rockies and the Santa Fe lifestyle…something for a change.  Our original plan is to fly directly from Singapore to Houston and stay in San Antonio nearby Riverwalk for a week.  Is a week sufficient?  After a week, we will rent a car & drive to either New Mexico or Colorado for couple a days stay.  Is it advisable to drive or fly, we have about 2 weeks vacation? Alternatively, flying to Los Angeles and take domestic flight to the above mentioned state?  Will appreciate if you can advise what is the best alternative way to travel?  Your recommendation is appreciated.  Thanks!

San Antonio is a very pretty city, but it is a small city.  You can see most of the major sights in two or three days.  One week should be more than enough time to visit San Antonio.

If you want to drive from San Antonio to Santa Fe, you must drive for about 15 hours.  It will take you at least two days of hard driving to go there.  Texas is a big state, and there are not many interesting sites in West Texas.  You will have many hours of boring driving across some flat plains.

I would consider taking an airplane to Albuquerque and renting a car in that city.  There are some interesting things to see in New Mexico.  The Pueblo communities like Acoma, the sky peublo, a few hours west of Albuquerque.  White Sands, Carlsbad Caverns, and Rosswell, home of the space aliens, are all within a days drive from Albuquerque.

Santa Fe is just a few hours north of Albuquerque, and the beautiful mountain resort of Taos is only a few hours further.  If you are eager for even more adventure, you can continue driving north for another half day and visit southern Colorado.

    Hi Mike

Will you be able to advise beside Texas which USA states to visit for 2 to 3 weeks stay.  Our priority are shopping especially Factory Outlets, sightseeing and relaxing.

Any ideas or suggestion will be very much appreciated.

    Thanks!

Have you considered visiting Las Vegas?  You can easily catch an inexpensive airplane flight from Dallas or Houston in Texas to Las Vegas.  Las Vegas has two major outlet shopping malls and many other stores.  It offers lots of entertainment choices, many great restaurants and gambling.

You could rent a car in Las Vegas and drive to many great scenic attractions in the Southwest.  The Grand Canyon, Sedona, parts of Route 66, Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park are all within a half-day drive from Las Vegas.  Northern Arizona and Southern Utah have some of the most spectacular scenery in the USA.  You could drive from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon and Sedona, then drive to lake Powell and Monument Valley, you could go to Arches National Park and Canyonland, then back through Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park to Las Vegas.  This drive could be done in one week with time to see most of these spectacular wonders.
