The best way to do it

    Hello,

We are going to Florida in November. We booked a cruise around the Caribbean and we think to spend the last ten days of our hollidays in New York but the first ten days we want to travel around Florida. We bought our fly tickets to Orlando and the cruise departs is the 14 of November but we don´t know what is the best way to do it.

At the beginning we tought to spend some days in Disney World and after that travel by train to Miami to spend some days visiting the city and also the Everglades National Park, but looking for some information we saw some places as Tampa, Cabo Cañaveral,.. that we really want to visit.

One of our options is to rent a car and drive to some of that places but we don´t know too much about the roads or the best routes to use our time in a right way. May be you can help us with a itinerary or places that we should visit in Florida. We don´t need too much information about car rentals or hotels but for sure we need a good guide to plan our third trip to USA.

We have been in USA twice and we had great experiences but know we are looking for a different way to discover the country.

     Thanks so much

I think it would be best to rent a car in Florida.  You can drive from the cruise terminal in Cape Canaveral to the National Space Center and museum in 30 minutes.  You can drive to Disney World in about one hour.  You can drive to Tampa in about two hours.  You can drive to Miami in just four hours.

When you get to Florida, you can buy a map at any local convenience store.  The roads between these cities are all good high speed highways.  It will be very easy to find the way.

I think the best way for you to see Florida would be with a rented car.  You can easily pick up a car at Orlando and use it to tour all of Florida.  The roads are very good and navigation is very easy.  From Orlando, you can drive to Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center in one hour.  You can drive to Tampa, Clearwater and St.Petersburg in less than two hours.  You can drive to Miami, Fort Lauderdale and the Everglades in less than four hours.

In ten days, you can easily visit the amusement parks in Orlando for a few days, then drive a tour all around Florida. You can easily drive down one coast and come back up along the other coast.  This would only take two days, so you will have plenty of time to stop and see many things.

One of the largest discount shopping malls in the USA is the Sawgrass Mills Mall near Fort Lauderdale less than one hour drive from Miami.

I don't know if your cruise is departing from Miami or from Cape Canaveral.  Both of these ports have many cruise ships leaving for the Carribean.
