Seattle, that jem of a city in the northwestern corner of the USA, is a wonderful place to visit. Most people think of it as the rainy city: but for the past few days, the sun has been shining and the skies are a clear blue.
The city is surrounded by water. Puget Sound, that great inland harbor of the Pacific Northwest, lies to the west of the city. From the hillside neighborhoods, we can see the great ocean liners and tour boats coming and going plus the incessant plying of the ferry boats to the outlying islands.
Lake washington lies east of the town. Its shores are lined with luxurious houses and a small fleet of floating homes. Lake Union, snaking through the northern suburbs, connects the two bodies of water. A constant traffic of pleasure craft, commertial tour boats and fishing boats criss cross the waters of all three bodies. On weekends, thousands of sails bloom on the waters.
The city has a wonderful collection of hiking and biking trails. At this time, in August, the blackberries are ripening all over the city. Nearly every vacant lot, every roadside embankment and the sides of the trails are lined with berry bushes covered with giant sweet berries. It is not uncommon to see Seattle residents stopping along the sidewalk to munch on some delectable sweet berries.
