"Three generation" trip from Boston to Niagara Falls

Dear all,My father, I and my son (tree generation) will stay at the begin of October in Boston. We plan to drive by car in 15 days from Boston to Montreal, Niagara Falls, then to New York City, Atlantic City. At the end we stay 3 days in Washington. I think, in the main part I know which roadmap we will take. But I really don't know where the best way from Boston to Niagara Falls is. I read a lot of travel books, but I am not sure what the best way is it.

1.) From Boston through the White Mountains (but we live already in the mountains at home Confused ) to the Adirondack Park. Then to Montreal, Kingston and Niagara Falls? Or

2.) From Boston (more southerly) to Hudson River. Then to the Adirondack Park and Montreal etc.

    or  3.) Any other route

Huh? I would be very, very grateful if you can write me any few words or feedback.

    Cheers

    Roger

That will be a lot of driving.

I am not so familiar with the White Mountains or Adirondack Park.  I know that you can drive from Boston to Niagara Falls in about 8 hours if you take the southern route and stay on the interstate highways.  If you go through the mountains, it will take a lot longer.  These are not high mountains with snow capped peaks.  They are lower mountains covered with forests and some rocky peaks.  The roads through the mountains can be very scenic, but they can also cause very slow driving especially when you get stuck behind some big slow logging trucks.  Fortunately, October is usually a very pretty time.   The leaves on the trees should be changing from green to many bright colors.  These hardwood forests display some really beautiful colors during a few weeks in early October.

That sounds good! I am very exited to see the color of the trees in the October.
