Despite what many believe, referrals are everywhere. Some professionals think these are difficult to get and that it requires a lot of work to find a good referral source, and this is actually true in their case, because they have a scarcity mentality. These professionals fall prey to desperation when hunting for business, and this is not an attractive way to present yourself and your products or services.

Doing business involves competing. Within a given business networking group, you have to earn quality referrals. You must work to create relationships starting from scratch; you must open yourself to other members so that they can get to know you and your work; you must act in a way that conveys trust so that the people there feel confident that you will deliver once they refer you. These professionals already have solid relationships that they will not risk by referring just anyone.

However, the fact that previous business relationships exist doesn’t mean the doors are closed for you to get good referrals; it is just a matter of having an abundance mentality, and you will be able to see the huge business potential out there for you and others in your industry. In fact, there is room to compete and collaborate with others.

For example, let’s say you own a pet grooming service and among your networking group there is a member who has a relationship with a grooming professional that is not present. You don’t simply approach this person and offer your service even though you know she is already in a business relationship with another person. This will immediately label you as an opportunist. Not good! Nevertheless, you know this member is involved with the field and may know other people that could need your services, so may can approach her, introduce yourself and ask her what the other pet groomer does that is so good. Ask her if he specializes in a certain type of grooming or service, and finally ask her to introduce you to that person. If he specializes in one area, tell him that you specialize in another one, and offer to refer cases to him. Propose that the two of you refer overflow patients to each other and help each other during holidays or vacations. You are still competitors, but are also helping each other.

Even if you both have the same specialty, you may benefit. Perhaps his service is located in the other side of town, so you can join forces to get to everyone within the area serviced.

A successful and healthy Business Networking practice gives you an abundance mentality. There are lots of opportunities out there for those who think positively and are open to creating valuable relationships from a win-win perspective.

Referrals do not fall from the sky. You can’t expect to join a group and get referrals just because. This will get you nowhere, and this is when you start having scarcity mentality, by believing that getting referrals is difficult.

There is room for everyone, because the world is abundant and business is abundant… for those who know where and how to look.

If you're in a place where a new friendship would be welcomed, you might want to know how to form bonds which are both enjoyable and lasting when you meet new people. Read these effective tips on how to make good friendships that last.

1. Make friends with yourself first
Know yourself well before you allow someone else to know you well too! Ask yourself probing questions such as your values, beliefs, life-goals, what you look for in friendships and what you believe you can offer as a friend. Are you looking for someone who shares your optimism for life? Do you need someone who can challenge you to think differently? Evaluate these important qualities about yourself and
you'll be more aware of the type of friend you should be looking for.

2. Spend more time around people who enjoy the same things you do
Are you interested in sports? A church-goer? An avid book reader? Spend more time around people who like the same things too. This might mean you join a sports team, attend more church events or form a book club, etc. Whatever it is, making the effort will pay off. Many friendships are made and easier to sustain when two people share
something in common.

3. Be an initiator
It's not just enough to be around the right type of people. You could be in the same painting class as your potential soul mate, but if you never take the opportunity to get to know people, you would never find this out. Be someone who initiates conversations with people to find out more about them. After you do, take steps to initiate meetings
such as going for a coffee or to see a theatre show. Don't expect friendships to fall into your lap - be active in helping people to get to know you and in helping yourself to get to know others too.

4. Be patient
Rome wasn't built in a day and the same applies to any good solid friendship. Don't be in a rush to become a BFF (best friend forever!) of the person you met the other week. Instead, allow the relationships you are forming good time to develop at a natural pace. Balance this with giving new friendships the time and attention they need to develop - after your first meeting with a new friend, follow up with a phone call or email and suggestions for another opportunity to meet - by not maintaining a fair amount of contact, you could let new friendships fizzle out.

5. Know how to be a good friend
Be reliable when you arrange to meet someone, considerate of other people's feelings, trustworthy, a good listener and someone who is able to accept a person's good and bad points. In short, be the caliber of friend you'd like to find yourself and you should have no problems with maintaining lasting friendships!

If you enjoyed this article, please feel free to post it to your site or blog and forward this link to your friends. But even in a city with millions, you might feel lonely if you haven't got any friends to share your new experiences with. The solution? Be proactive! Don't sit around your home and wait for people to find you...instead, follow these seven tips for finding good friends in a new city:

1. Get to know your neighbors. If you live in a community which hosts regular meetings or events, make an effort to be involved. Knowing people who live around you is always a help and makes your neighborhood a more social place.

2. Join a club or class relating to a subject or hobby that interests you, e.g., a dance class, hockey team or painting course. This helps you get out and meet people who share similar interests to you - a good starting point for any friendship.

3. Take part in a running club. Most cities organize groups who train together and all levels are welcome. It's one way to stay fit and you'll socialize by chatting as you run, too.

4. If you have a dog, take it out for a walk where other dog-owners in the area go. Popular dog walking areas are always great places to meet other dog-owners - it's hard not to admire each other's pets and swap pet-owning stories.

5. Volunteer to do something helpful. There are always places looking for help like soup kitchens or child-mentoring organizations. You'll benefit your community and are sure to come in contact with lots of people - especially like-minded ones who want to make a difference too.

6. Check your local newspaper for local events - there may be a new cafe opening or a new exhibition at the museum. Just because you haven't made any friends yet, it shouldn't be an excuse to stay indoors. The more you go out, the more likely you are to meet someone new...even if you don't, and at least you've been out and enjoyed yourself.

7. Make use of great websites for meeting people. They help you meet other people in your local area who also want to make friends, share interests, or network for business or social purposes. If you don't find a group you'd like to join, you could even use the site to start one yourself!

If you enjoyed this article, please feel free to post it to your site or blog and forward this link to your friends. Your goal? To network and make as many good contacts as possible - these future relationships could be vital to your business's growth. Before you set off for your event, you'll want to revise some good business networking practices. Here are some of the most common mistakes to avoid:

1. Forgetting Your Business Cards
You'll want to exchange as many business cards as you can. If you forget yours, you'll appear unprofessional scribbling your details on pieces of scrap paper. Instead, a well-presented business card will convey a lot about you - those who take yours will be encouraged to look up your web details or contact you again via the details supplied.

2. Not Being Polite and Courteous
People will want to know what type of person you are. If you can be considerate and polite, even when things go wrong, e.g., when you have bad service at a restaurant, this will speak volumes about your character. Avoid being negative about anyone or anything, even your competition. A person who is positive about things is a more attractive person to be around.

3. Not Watching What You Eat and Drink
The best advice when drinking and eating is to do as little of it as possible when networking. Consuming too much alcohol can quickly start to cloud what you say and how you appear to others. Also, it is never easy to juggle plates of food, shaking hands, swapping business cards and smooth conversation while you are eating. Try and eat something before an event if you can - even if it is at a restaurant, you can order something to nibble on rather than to appease your appetite. And be aware that it is rarely attractive to talk with you mouth full of food.

4. Not Being Prepared for Casual Conversation
When meeting people for the first time, there are likely to be some lulls in the conversation. Have a few interesting subjects on hand to help revive a conversation again. Watch or read the news the day before your meeting, or browse through magazines related to your field - then bring up something you think might interest someone else or be good for discussion. Avoid controversial subjects like politics or religion.

5. Getting Stuck with One Group of People
It's easy to find a group of people you feel comfortable talking with, and you might feel reluctant to keep working the room. But don't let your goal of networking slip out of your focus. Try and pretend the event you are at is something you are hosting and make yourself move on and greet and talk to more people. Perhaps offer to get your new group some drinks or offer them a plate of appetizers - these tricks make good first impressions.

If you enjoyed this article, please feel free to post it to your site or blog and forward this link to your friends. Instead, there are ways to conquer your inhibitions and learn to come out of your socially-shy shell. We've discovered four key ways to help with the battle.

1. Stop thinking about yourself and focus on other people
If you start feeling self-conscious about yourself or analyzing how you appear when you meet a new person, try and focus your attention on your new associates instead. Who are they and what are they saying to you? What are the things you like about them? What would you like to know more about them? By switching your attention to other people, you'll help yourself forget your shyness and make yourself a more attentive person to talk to at the same time.

2. Get your mind working positively
Try these techniques to help reprogram the way you feel about yourself. Firstly visualize - imagine yourself in networking scenarios where you act calm, confident and naturally yourself. Secondly, destroy negative words or statements in your head, e.g., 'I have nothing useful to say'. Instead, repeat positive words and statements to yourself, e.g, 'I have valuable things to contribute'. By reinforcing positive thoughts and images about yourself in your mind, you'll help override the negative ones.

3. Accept Rejection
Not everyone you meet will instantly like you - the same way that you may not like every person you meet. Learn to accept this fact of life and not to take it personally if someone doesn't show the same interest in you. Instead, use the opportunity to help you become more confident because you are able to move on.

4. Learn to like yourself
If you can sit and think about the things you like the most about yourself, you're sure to discover a dozen or so reasons why other people should like you too. Focus on your strengths and you'll soon forget your weaknesses. Not a good talker? Well maybe you're a more sensitive listener. Not good at making jokes? Perhaps you're great at sharing anecdotes. Aim to be yourself - the self that you like - and you'll have nothing to be shy about.

If you enjoyed this article, please feel free to post it to your site or blog and forward this link to your friends. Trade means exchanging goods. Exchanging involves giving and taking. This is like the dynamic equilibrium chemists talk about. But instead of atoms or molecules, goods are exchanged. Somehow, you are the door to those goods, and your name is the door to you, so other people will remember you when they remember your name. If you assist them and listen to them when they are in need of something you can provide, they will remember you when it comes to trading that is, doing business. When this happens, you will have started a business network. For this network to grow and be kept alive, you should keep in mind the following facts:

1. First of all, you’ll have to look in the right places in order to see the elements your business network consists of. Be aware that your clients are the most important element of this network. If you lose contact with them, or if you take them for granted, you’ll pay the price. Use their complaints as information, especially when it comes to your own suppliers. If you sell computers, for example, and your clients complain about their performance, you should consider changing your hardware supplier.
2. Share your information. When you find a good supplier, let others know about it, don’t keep this to yourself. That way, you’ll be helping your supplier’s business, and they’ll learn that doing business with you helps them grow.
3. Become a solution, but not a painful one. It’s not about being necessary; it’s about being sufficient (no matter what marketing schools say). Don’t base your business relations on excuses and illness; base them on friendship and aid.
4. Have a clear understanding of what your goal is; try to have a philosophy of your own and believe in it. Learn from others and their mistakes, rather than their success. Often, business people don’t have any idea of why they did well, though they think they do. Look for books about well-known catastrophic mistakes in business history.
5. Keep in touch with your clients. Call them, ask them how they’re doing and do the same with your suppliers. Meet people and listen to what they have to say, share your experience, too. As a famous scientist said, all we have to do is make sure we keep talking.

If you enjoyed this article, please feel free to post it to your site or blog and forward this link to to your friends. If we determine you are under 18, we will delete your profile immediately.

We all have heard stories about in-person Internet meetings going bad so here are a few guidelines to keep in mind:

Location: For first time meetings, it is always important to meet at a very public place like a busy coffee shop, restaurant, or park. A shopping mall is an excellent place for a first-time meeting. Never meet in a private residence or hotel, or anywhere where you would be alone.

Safety in Numbers: Also try to arrange meetings with multiple members rather than just meeting one-on-one. Invite a friend to your networking meetings with new people. It is a good idea to tell someone in your family or a friend that you are going to meet “this person”, and that you’ll be at this place, at this time, and with “these people”. They will rest easy, and you will feel safe, as well.

Be Smart: It is important to use good judgment in Internet face to face meetings and trust your gut. If you do not feel comfortable with someone, simply walk away. If you feel you’ve been lied to or deceived in any way, you have the ability to leave the meeting if you feel threatened. Also, do not leave your personal belongings or drinks unattended at the meeting, or leave them behind. An awkward experience can turn into an even more uncomfortable one if you accidentally leave something behind, and you have to schedule another meeting to get it back. Be smart and you will be safe.

Protect your Personally Identifiable Information: It is recommended in any first time Internet meeting that you not divulge any personal information that could be used against you, such as your full name, street address, cell phone number, or your driver’s license. This individual could use this information against you and steal your identity, bank account numbers, etc. Always remember never to post any personal information on your profile that could be misused.

Be Courteous and Require Courtesy from Others: Treat people with respect, and that’s exactly what you’ll get back. Be courteous, and they will be courteous back. MeetingWave.com is a great place to network and meet with different like-minded people. It is the ideal place to make life-long and very profitable partnerships. It is important to make responsible decisions when meeting people offline and to be smart and use common sense.

If you enjoyed this article, please feel free to post it to your site or blog and forward this link to to your friends.
hi I'm JCT.
I'm currently a Board Member Volunteer for a non-profit agency in my local area and am

leaving a paying job soon.

I've also been actively looking for a new paying job for the last several months, without much luck at all,

except for recently having some interviews.

(I'm thinking that I might take some time and do some travelling that I've wanted to do for years,

and when I'm done with the trips, will get back to actively looking for work.)

I have several years experience in customer service and some education in travel and tourism.
(in about a year, I plan to return to college. I plan to do so part time so I can work while I study,
to finish hospitality related courses (part time) toward a degree.).

I have a good work ethic, am dependable, reliable, caring, have good basic math skills,

superior customer service skills, I have leadership skills gained from over three years of service as an appointed,

volunteer member of a non-profit Board of Directors, I have (online and offline) data management skills

gained from membership in several social groups-two of which I keep track of member information,

and would be an excellent new member of your company's team.

I live in the Merrimack Valley area of Massachusetts USA and would prefer a job close to home,

However I'm willing and able to commute to the Melrose, Medford, Malden, Boston, Cambridge, Newton,

Brookline, Brighton, Everett, Waltham areas to find and maintain employment.

I will also consider relocating (or partial relocation, by this I mean spending part of the year in Massachusetts

and part of the year in the southwest especially arizona or maybe texas working for the same company,

just at two different locations during the year or even a year in one then a year in the other.)
<I would probably need assistance and at least a year or two or so before I could relocate.>

My dream job offers the opportunity to serve the company and it's guests or customers,
