Hi, My name is Stefanie and I am from Vermont. I graduated from the University of VT in May 2008 and moved to Prague, Czech Republic which has been a great location for me because I have had the privilege to do so much traveling. I took the TEFL course to teach English as a foreign language and then decided to work as an au pair which has been terrific. I am moving to Washington D.C. this September and am looking to travel the states during the summer of 2010. I found this website and became very interested in reading blogs and getting involved. I was wondering if you have any work available or offer any stipend for people who are interested in traveling, taking photographs and writing about their experiences. I will have a flexible schedule driving from the east coast to the west coast and then backto the east. I am an active individual and I love to be outdoors hiking, camping and exploring new areas. I am a vegetarian and, especially in Europe, enjoy the constant challenges of fulfilling this lifestyle. I am an environmentally conscious individual and I try to get involved with communities to share my ideas about sustainable living and raise awareness that even the small steps can make a difference. If there is anyway to receive sponsorship for traveling, that would be wonderful, but I am glad to be a part of this organization regardless.Thanks.

Food, Wine, and Beer Festivals

Last fall I attended a local Tucson, Arizona food and wine festival. If you get the opportunity to attend a food and wine event in a city you are visiting I highly recommend it. Restaurants from all over the city bring anywhere from one to several dishes off their menu for attendees to sample. Wineries from all over the country attend and some local breweries offer samples of their beer.

Attending such events are a terrific way to "taste the city" and meet people from the area. The festivals are held year-round and vary depending upon the city. Some events are held outdoors and others are held in large convention hall or expand through several hotel conference rooms. The tickets cost between $45-85 and up. The cost includes all of your food, beverages, and usually a souvenir wine glass or beer mug.

I found some 2008 festivals and listed them below.

April 12 - Food and Wine Festival in Palm Springs, California and the same weekend is the Texas Hill Country Wine & Food Festival.

June 28th - Boulder (Colorado) Food & Wine Festival.

October 9-11th - Great American Beer Festival in Denver (visitors enjoy one-ounce beer samples). November 15th - Northwest Food & Wine Festival in Portland, Oregon.

November 14-18th - San Diego Bay Wine and Food Festival

If you have ever attended such a festival please share your thoughts. I'd love to hear about other food and wine festivals through out the country.

It's time to wish all members of USA Tourist Community a Happy New Year. I appreciate the monthly newsletters and especially the good readable introductions of places to go. During my first travel to Florida in April this year, I used the recommendations to buy the Orlando and Miami cards and saved a lot of money. Besides, I booked all my hotel rooms in Fort Myers, Miami Beach, Orlando and Tampa with "USA Tourist Com" and had no difficulties at all.

Christmas in Charleston

Christmas in Charleston sounds like so much fun.

A few of the holiday events include a gingerbread house competition, Holiday Festival of Lights, the 22nd Annual Progressive Dinner at Circa 1886, and the Christmas Made In The South arts and crafts show at the Ladson Fairgrounds. You can read more about tours and attractions in Charleston here.

Florida Bed and Breakfasts

When you're on a romantic getaway and would like an alternative to the traditional hotels I recommend staying in a Bed and Breakfast. The rooms are cozy, the staff is always friendly and the homes often have wonderful histories. A Bed and Breakfast is a great way to get to know the town from a local's perspective. Since this month's News Magazine is about Orlando I'd like to suggest a couple of Bed and Breakfasts in the artsy Florida town of New Smyrna Beach. You won’t have to drive too far as it is less than an hour from Orlando. Both the Victorian style 1896 Nuns and Roses and surf themed Longboard Inn are only a few minutes from the beach and close to the town's attractions.
