Circle Line Seaport Cruises offers sightseeing boat tours around Manhattan Island departing nearly every hour during the summer months. They leave from Pier 83 at the west end of 42nd Street, last for 3 hours and cost about $22. They also offer shorter cruises and evening musical cruises.
New York Waterways and several other tour operators offer short cruises around the harbor and rivers. Many of them depart from the South Street Seaport downtown or from Pier 78 at the West End of 38th Street. They usually cost between $15 and $30 depending on length.
Madison Square Gardens, the world's most famous arena, contains a 20,000-seat sports arena five floors above street level with a 5,000-seat theater beneath it. All of this is perched atop subterranean Pennsylvania Station, the world's busiest railroad terminal. "The Gardens" is home to the New York Knicks NBA basketball team, the New York Rangers NHL hockey team, and the New York Liberty women's HBA basketball team. You can tour the arena, the theater and the team locker rooms from 10AM until 3PM daily for a modest fee. The USS Intrepid, a World War II vintage aircraft carrier that saw action in the Pacific Ocean, in Vietnam and as a space recovery vessel, is docked along pier 86 at the western end of 46th street. A collection of military aircraft is parked on the flight deck and the great hanger bay contains a Naval museum with vintage aircraft, military artifacts and interactive exhibits including a flight simulator. The admission price of $11 includes a tour of the USS Edson, navy destroyer and the USS Growler, nuclear submarine.
